Hyderabad: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Hyderabad is facing delays, with around 5.27 lakh voters yet to receive notices for re-verification, according to election officials.
The SIR process covers anomalous and non-mapping voters across Hyderabad district and the Core Urban Region (CURE). The CURE has around 38.93 lakh voters across Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.
Hyderabad district alone has more than 12.53 lakh voters covered under the exercise. So far, officials have issued around 7.26 lakh notices, leaving approximately 5.27 lakh still pending.
The highest number of notices is pending in Secunderabad Cantonment, where 57,052 voters are to be served notices. Musheerabad follows with 56,425, while Jubilee Hills has 48,565.
Amberpet has 41,203 voters on the list, followed by Khairatabad with 39,189. Chandrayangutta has the lowest number, with 17,116 notices to be issued.
SIR Notice Delay Raises Questions Over Deadline
The draft electoral roll was released after officials identified non-mapping voters and other anomalies. Hearings on these cases began on August 29, with the Election Department targeting completion of the process by September 16.
The final voter list is scheduled to be published on October 19.
With a substantial number of notices still pending, questions are being raised over whether the department can complete the re-verification process within the stipulated timeline.
To speed up the hearings, 10 additional Assistant Electoral Officers (AAEOs) have reportedly been appointed. Officials are also working to accelerate the notice distribution and verification process at the field level.
Voter Awareness Campaigns Planned
Meanwhile, special voter awareness programmes are being organised at polling stations in the Secunderabad Assembly constituency.
The programmes will focus on the SIR re-verification process, including absentee voters, deceased voters, duplicate entries, anomalous cases and other issues related to the electoral roll.
Officials said voters seeking new registration, corrections, deletion of names or other changes can submit applications through the prescribed election forms and procedures.
