Warned Of Criminal Action Against Rice Millers For Selling PDS Rice: Ravinder Singh

Hyderabad, Mar 3 (Maxim News):  Civil Supplies Corporation Chairman Sardar Ravinder Singh has ordered the officers to register criminal cases against the rice millers who sold rice allotted by the government for the Public Distribution System.

He held a review meeting with the managing director of the Civil Supplies Department Anil Kumar at his office today.   The rice millers in Telangana state are minting money out of rice stocks meant for the public distribution system, though the millers are supposed to handover custom-milled rice (CMR)  stocks to the government within 15 days, they failed to do so even after the deadline was extended.  They are earning crores by supplying those rice stocks to districts within the state and neighboring states.

Speaking on this occasion,  the Chairman said that more strict action should be taken in the matter of collection from rice millers (Custom Milling Rice), special teams have been formed with 25 Vigilance and Enforcement and Civil Supply officials to hand over the rice to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) on a war footing to prevent the delay in CMR collection.  He said that these teams will conduct special inspections in rice mills across the state from Saturday.

Officials of the respective districts should cooperate with the special teams and warn that strict action will be taken in case of non-cooperation.  He clarified that if the CMR is not given to FCI within the stipulated time, instead of that rice, they will collect a 25 percent fine in cash form, but the rice will not be taken.  The same should be conveyed to the millers.  A 25 percent fine imposed on 118 millers for 2019-20 was also ordered to be collected.  They said that the respective district officials should submit the bills to FCI by March 25.  (Maxim News)
