BRS claims on minority welfare are false: Congress

Hyderabad, June 20: Continuing the district outreach program to draw minorities towards the Congress party, the Mahabubnagar District Congress Minority Department organized an extended Executive Meeting at the Mahabubnagar DCC Office on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures such as TPCC Minorities Dept Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, Mahabubnagar DCC President Madhusudhan Reddy, TPCC Vice President Obaidullah Kotwal, Mahabubnagar Minority Chairman Zaheer Akhtar, Khairtabad District Minority Chairman Arham Adil and Minority Department chairpersons of others districts including Mohammed Habeeb Ur Rehman (Nagarkurnool), Mahmood Qureshi (Narayanpet) and Minority Department Chairpersons of Mandals, Towns and constituencies in erstwhile Mahabubnagar district attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Chairman Abdullah Sohail emphasized the need to reach every household in the state and expose the failures of the BRS Government on minority welfare. He alleged that the claims of BRS leaders on minority welfare in Telangana were totally false and pure propaganda.

One of the claims made by the BRS Government was that they had spent Rs 9,166 crore on the welfare of minorities since the formation of Telangana in 2014. However, Sohail pointed out that this amount accounted for only 0.463% of the total budget allocated for Telangana, which is unjustifiably low considering that Muslims constitute around 13-14% of the population. He further highlighted that the government admitted to not spending Rs. 6,814 crores of the allocated amount, demanding an explanation from Chief Minister KCR regarding this unspent sum.

The government also boasted of providing Ramadan gifts, including clothes and iftar, to poor people of Muslim minorities. Sohail argued that this approach revealed the government’s failure to economically empower the Muslim community. By solely providing gifts during Ramadan without addressing employment or income generation, the government neglected the long-term well-being of the Muslim population.

Regarding the Shadi Mubarak scheme, which aimed to provide financial assistance for the marriage of poor Muslim girls, the BRS Government highlighted the amount allocated and the number of beneficiaries. However, Sohail drew attention to the pending and rejected applications, stating that thousands of families had to borrow money at high-interest rates due to delayed disbursements. He criticized the government for failing to address these issues and for not providing transparency regarding the pending applications.

The BRS Government also claimed to have established minority residential schools to provide quality education. However, Sohail revealed that the government had closed down thousands of primary schools, preventing many poor minority students from joining these residential schools. Additionally, a significant number of minority residential schools operated in rented buildings without basic amenities and playgrounds, resulting in inadequate facilities for students.

During the meeting, the attendees also discussed unfulfilled promises, such as the construction of a Rabat in Ajmer Sharif Dargah and the Telangana Islamic Cultural Convention Center. Sohail said that the Chief Minister ensured the construction of a new Secretariat and a palatial bungalow Pragathi Bhavan by spending over Rs 1500 crore in a short span. But he did not even lay the foundation stone for the Islamic Cultural Convention Center or the Rabat at Ajmer.

The Congress leaders decided to approach the minority youth who were denied subsidized loans by BRS Govt. Further, they decided to meet the parents of students whose studies were affected due to the lack of Fee Reimbursement and Scholarships. Similarly, poor minorities who had applied for 2BHK units in the last nine years would be approached seeking support in the next Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Sohail informed that the extended executive meetings of Minority Departments would be held in all districts across the State.

The meeting concluded with a call to all minorities to join the Congress party and help it to form the next government in Telangana. (Maxim News)
