GHMC WARNING: Criminal Cases Against Those Who Open The Manholes

Hyderabad, July 21 (Maxim News): It has been raining incessantly for the past three days across the state of Telangana.  People have to face dire situations due to heavy rains, in this connection, the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has been alerted.

The Managing Director of HMWS&SB Dana Kishore conducted a review with the higher officials at the Khairatabad headquarters and asked the officials about the relief measures.  The MD advised the officials to pay special attention to the supply of quality water and to pay special measures other than the supply of polluted water at this time.

He wants to work in coordination with the officials of GHMC and police departments. The MD warned that opening the lids of manholes is a crime under Section 74 of the Water Board Act, and criminal cases will be registered in case of violation. If any manhole cover is destroyed or noticed to be left open, call the customer care number of Jal Mandal at 155313 and give information.

The MD said that safety grills have already been arranged for more than 22 thousand manholes. It was ordered to ensure that lids and safety grills are mandatory on the deep manholes and to monitor the water logging points of GHMC regularly. Warning boards should be installed at flooded manholes. MD Danakishore said that the removed waste (silt) should be removed immediately and the officials should take care that the garbage does not end up at the crossing of the drinking water pipeline.

And where does the rainwater stand? Where are the manholes for that water to go? What are the ways to get out of the standing water on the roads? The city traffic police are using technology to make the personnel aware of such matters. However, waterlogging points are the main cause of traffic congestion during monsoon season. Because of this, geo-tagging of water logging points and manholes has been done. (Maxim News)
