People Over 80 Years Can Now Vote From Home

Hyderabad, Sept 21 (Maxim News): The Central Election Commission has decided to provide the facility for people above 80 years of age to exercise their right to vote at home in the upcoming assembly elections.  

Information has been sent to the Chief Electoral Officer of the 5 states, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram where elections will be held soon to provide an opportunity to those who want this facility to exercise their right to vote through postal ballot in advance.  election are to be held in Telangana by the end of this year.  The Election Commission has recently sent information to the state regarding who is eligible to exercise the right to vote under the postal ballot system.

The election Commission has suggested preparing postal ballot papers for 11 categories such as persons over 80 years of age, persons with disabilities working in the central forces, personnel performing election duties, polling agents, and persons who have been detained by the police in advance.  the above 80 years, disabled people want to vote from home, they have to apply.  Officials will prepare postal ballots once the nomination process is over and the candidates are finalized.  A ballot paper will be prepared in a special color for those who vote from home.

Meanwhile, after announcing the election schedule, the Central Election Commission will send the procedures to the officials to make arrangements to exercise the right to vote from home.  It has been made clear that the vote-from-home system should be implemented in the upcoming elections.  Those who want to avail of this facility have to apply in writing to the election officer of the area.  Election officials will make necessary arrangements to go to the voters’ homes and vote.  This policy was implemented in Nagarjunasagar and Munugode Assembly constituency by-elections as well as in the Karnataka Assembly elections.

The Election Commission decided to implement this effort in the Telangana Assembly elections as it was beneficial.  According to the list of voters released on January 5 this year, there are 4,87,950 voters above 80 years of age in the state.  (Maxim News)
