Gandhi Bhavan A Symbol Of Disunity For Telangana Congress

Hyderabad, Nov 4 (Maxim News): The Telangana Congress party is known for its rich historical legacy, but it is also notorious for its internal strife. Gandhi Bhavan, the party’s headquarters, has witnessed numerous incidents of violence, clashes, and protests in recent years.

Here is a chronicle of some of the most notable disruptions at Gandhi Bhavan:

On September 1, 2014: Factions led by Khammam District Leaders Renuka Choudhary, R Venkat Reddy, and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy engaged in physical altercations in the presence of AICC Secretary RC Khuntia and then PCC President.

February 2, 2019: A power struggle between Srikanth Goud and V Hanmantha Rao led to heated exchanges and fistfights at Gandhi Bhavan.

April 2, 2018: Leaders and activists from various constituencies staged a dharna in front of Gandhi Bhavan due to discontent over election tickets. Security had to be heightened to prevent potential attacks.

March 4, 2019: Dharnas in front of Gandhi Bhavan and Rastarokulu Shura became a common occurrence, with Satish Madiga and former MLA Sampath Vargiya causing disruptions.

November 4, 2018: During the assembly elections, leaders fought for seats, and followers of competing leaders even pelted each other with stones. Some resorted to drastic measures like attempting self-immolation or self-harm in protest.

November 5, 2019: In the presence of senior leader Gulannabi Azad, V Hanumantha Rao, and Shabbir Ali, leaders engaged in verbal confrontations. Followers expressed differing preferences for the post of PCC, causing further division.

December 3, 2014: Leaders and activists engaged in violent confrontations in the presence of the AICC leader and PCC president at Gandhi Bhavan, resulting in broken glass doors and chair-throwing.

December 22, 2022: A tumultuous scene unfolded in front of Digvijay Singh, the leader of the delegation, with leaders raising slogans and staging dharnas.

Dharnas, protests, clashes, slogans, and physical altercations have escalated at Gandhi Bhavan in the lead-up to the latest election notification. This discontent and violence appear to be rooted in the party’s historical tendencies. While physical attacks were not part of the party’s early culture, they have unfortunately become ingrained over time.

It is clear that Congress leaders and their supporters, rather than adhering to the party’s principles, are now more inclined towards factionalism, even in internal meetings. This has led to allegations of ticket selling during elections, exacerbating dissatisfaction and causing these confrontations. (Maxim News)
