Uttam Expresses Deep Concern Over Diversion And Misuse Of Ration Rice

Nalgonda/Hyderabad, Dec 25 (Maxim News): Minister for Food and Civil supplies, Irrigation, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that strict action will be taken if ration rice is recycled. He inspected the ration shops in Huzurnagar today and gave a warning to the milers.

After inspecting the ration shop and inspecting the quality of rice and other services, Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed deep concern over diversion and misuse of ration rice. At present, about 54 lakh ration card holders in Telangana are getting 5 kg of rice per month from the Central government and 1 kg from the state government, he said, in addition, the state government will provide 6 kg of rice every month to another 35 lakh ration card holders.

He said that he had discussed with the ration dealers about the quality of ration rice and other issues which are being supplied to 89 lakh families at the rate of 6 kg per month in Telangana.

The total cost of procurement from Central and state governments is Rs. 39 per kg.  However, millers and other non-governmental organizations are found to be recycling about 70-75 per cent of the ration rice.  He said that the state government is taking this matter very seriously. He warned that those involved in rice recycling would have to face the consequences.

He said that the Congress government is committed to take strict action against milers or other persons who are recycling ration rice.  He said that the BRS government, which was in power till now, had burdened the Civil supplies corporation with a debt of around Rs. 56 thousand crores.  In 2014, when the BRS government assumed responsibility, the debt was only Rs. 3,300 crore.  At present, the annual interest burden on the Corporation, which is responsible for distribution of ration and collectionof rice grain, has crossed Rs. 3,000 crores.  Uttam Kumar Reddy explained that due to the previous government’s gross negligence towards this department, the corporation has suffered a loss of Rs. 11 thousand crores in a decade.  (Maxim News)
