YS Jagan CBI And ED Cases To Be Heard Daily

Hyderabad, Oct 14 (Maxim News): The Nampally Special CBI Court in Hyderabad has decided to hear the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases involving former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on a day to day basis.

The court’s decision is aimed at expediting proceedings in the cases, which have remained pending at the discharge petition stage for nearly a decade, according to the information provided.

As part of the proceedings, Jagan Mohan Reddy and the other accused are expected to appear before the court in person. The development follows the ED’s recent move to approach the Telangana High Court, seeking faster hearings in the long pending cases.

The ED reportedly argued that the cases should be taken up daily in accordance with the right to a speedy trial under Article 21 of the Constitution.

It also urged the court to treat the cases seriously, citing allegations involving financial offences, alleged conspiracies and the misuse of public funds.

In its petition before the Telangana High Court, the ED highlighted the prolonged pendency of the cases and sought directions to accelerate the proceedings.

The agency relied on the constitutional principle of a speedy trial and referred to previous Supreme Court observations concerning serious economic offences.

Against this background, the Nampally Special CBI Court has decided to proceed with daily hearings in the cases involving Jagan Mohan Reddy and the other accused. The court is also expected to ensure their personal attendance during the proceedings, as required.

The cases have remained at the discharge petition stage for an extended period.

Discharge petitions seek the court’s decision on whether there are sufficient grounds to proceed against an accused before a full trial begins.

The latest development concerns the pace and scheduling of the court proceedings. The allegations in the cases remain subject to judicial determination, and the decision to conduct daily hearings does not itself establish the guilt of any accused. (Maxim News)
