On completion of 75 years of glorious service to the nation, the Navigation Training School (NTS) located at Air Force Station Begumpet celebrated Platinum Jubilee on 01 and 02 March 2024. The NTS, also known as ‘TERNS’ is one of the oldest training establishments of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The ceremony was attended by serving personnel and veterans who had served in the unit, throughout its illustrious history. On the momentous occasion, Group Captain Manoranjan Das, Commanding Officer, greeted the dignitaries, veterans, and their families in his welcome address. To mark the iconic event, a Special Cover was released by Air Marshal R Radhish, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command, IAF. The Air Marshal in his address complimented the unit personnel and highlighted the immense contributions of the serving and retired alumni of this prestigious institution. As part of this momentous occasion, a series of commemorative events were held that included a scintillating aerial display by the Akashganga Sky Diving Team and a display by the Air Warrior Drill Team.
Navigation Training School, the Alma Mater of the IAF Navigators, was first started in September 1946 at Royal Indian Air Force Station (RIAF), Tambaram as Air Navigation School, RIAF. This school was purely for ground subjects and did not have a flying element. Post-Independence, the school moved to No.2 Air Force Academy, Jodhpur, and the ‘Air Navigation Squadron’ was created. It was here that the first Navigators course of the Indian Air Force commenced its training in March 1949. In 1963, the Signallers’ Training element was merged and the unit was rechristened as ‘Navigation and Signals School’. In 1967, the Navigation and Signals School (later NTS) moved from Jodhpur to its present location at Air Force Station Begumpet, Secunderabad. To impart more effect-based training that is contemporary, relevant to the modern battlefield, and in line with the requirements of the IAF, the unit has evolved its training methodology towards furtherance of the operational might of the IAF.
