OFMK entered into a significant contract with the Indian Army for Upgradation of 693 BMP-II vehicles to BMP-II M

Secunderabad, 14 Mar 2024: Ordnance Factory Medak (OFMK) is a constituent of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd (AVNL), stands as one of the five production units under the ambit of the newly formed Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

AVNL holds prominence in manufacturing Armoured fighting vehicles, including main battle tanks and mine-protected vehicles, catering primarily to the requirements of the Indian Armed Forces. Notable products of AVNL encompass T-90 Tank, T-72 Tank, BMP-II (Sarath Tank) and MBT Arjun.

Aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, AVNL is dedicated not only to delivering battle-proven tanks to the Indian Army but also actively engages in research and development endeavors to address the ever-evolving needs of the armed forces and the dynamic nature of modern warfare. The upgradation of BMP-II to BMP-IIM exemplifies such an effort.

On 13^th March 2024, OFMK (a unit of AVNL) entered into a significant contract with the Indian Army for the upgradation of 693 BMP-II vehicles to BMP-IIM standard, focusing particularly on enhancing night enablement and fire control systems with auto-targeting capabilities. The contract was formally handed over to Shri Sanjay Dwivedi, IOFS, ndc, CMD/AVNL, at Sena Bhavan, New Delhi.

This path-breaking initiative was ingeniously Designed and Developed by OFMK in collaboration with M/s. BEL, Chennai, signifies a momentous step towards realizing the objectives of Atmanirbhar Bharat. This order not only energizes the entire AVNL group of factories but also provides a strong impetus to in-house research and development efforts.

Some of the Salient Features of Upgraded BMP-II are:

1. Gunner & Commander sight with CCD, Thermal Imager (TI) Sight and Laser range finder(LRF)

2. Integrated fire control system for all armament (PKT Gun,2A42 and ATGM)

3. Multi-functional display for Gunner & Commander

4. MET- sensor for Fire Control system

5. Auto target tracker

6. Night firing capability of ATGM

7. Significant improvement in accuracy and operational efficiency

8. Trooper displays at the rear side of BMP-2 for better situational awareness.
