Hyderabad, April 26 (Maxim News): In a major victory against organized crime, the Commissioner’s Task Force and Hyderabad Police have successfully dismantled a large international cell phone smuggling and snatching syndicate.

17 Arrested, ₹1.75 Crore Seized: The operation, led by the South Zone Team of the Task Force in collaboration with Bandlaguda Police, resulted in the arrest of 17 individuals, including five Sudanese nationals. Police also seized stolen property valued at a staggering ₹1.75 crore (approximately USD 210,000.
The investigation, prompted by a recent surge in phone thefts, revealed a complex criminal network operating within Hyderabad. This network comprised various players: snatchers who stole the phones, receivers who bought the stolen goods, and domestic and international traders who smuggled the phones abroad for significant profits.

The investigation uncovered a more disturbing aspect – stolen phones were not just resold whole. In some cases, they were disassembled, and their components were repurposed as replacement parts, highlighting the syndicate’s elaborate operation.
Diverse Cast of Criminals: The arrested individuals came from various backgrounds, including seemingly ordinary professions like wedding decorators, car drivers, mechanics, and businessmen. Their shared motive – financial gain – led them to orchestrate late-night robberies targeting unsuspecting pedestrians in secluded areas.

The criminals used stolen vehicles for swift escapes after intimidating victims. The stolen phones were then sold to local receivers who distributed them domestically. Some stolen phones even reached repair shops where they were dismantled and their parts resold, further fueling the illegal trade.
The network stretched beyond India’s borders. Sudanese nationals played a key role in smuggling stolen phones to Sudan through illegal channels, profiting from their resale in their home country.

The recovery of 703 stolen smartphones from various brands marks a significant win for law enforcement. However, the investigation is far from over. Authorities are determined to unravel the syndicate’s entire structure and bring all perpetrators to justice.
Police Commissioner K. Sreenivasa Reddy, praised the collaborative efforts of the Task Force and Hyderabad Police in dismantling this criminal enterprise. This operation serves as a testament to their commitment to ensuring citizen safety and combating organized crime in all its forms. (Maxim News)
