Owaisi’s communal politics overshadow the issues facing Hyderabad residents, says Sameer
Hyderabad, May 3: Hyderabad DCC President and Congress candidate from Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency Mohammed Waliullah Sameer has strongly criticised the communal politics of AIMIM President and sitting MP Asaduddin Owaisi and claimed that Owaisi’s focus on divisive politics had eclipsed the real issues affecting the lives of residents in the Old City of Hyderabad.

After attending Friday prayers at the historic Mecca Masjid, Waliullah Sameer interacted with residents, vendors, and other community members. The response, he said, was overwhelming, with people sharing their grievances and expressing frustration at the lack of responsiveness from authorities.
Later in the evening, Waliullah Sameer conducted a massive roadshow in the Charminar constituency, which started from Moosabowli Chowrasta and covered several localities. Congress senior leaders, including P Vijaya Reddy, Ali Masqati, Mujeebullah Shareef and others, participated in the roadshow.

Speaking to the media, Waliullah Sameer pointed out that AIMIM has held the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat since 1984, yet little has been done to address the area’s development challenges. He highlighted that Asaduddin Owaisi, the current MP, has represented the constituency since 2004 but has yet to bring attention to the residents’ pressing issues.
“Asaduddin Owaisi’s political stature has grown to the point where it has overshadowed the needs and aspirations of the people of Hyderabad. While the media frequently covers his statements, he rarely speaks about the lack of development in Hyderabad. The residents are forced to live in a suffocated manner, unable to voice their demands or raise their grievances. This must change. Hyderabad should be treated like any other constituency that needs new projects and funding for development,” he said.

Waliullah Sameer accused AIMIM of using Hyderabad voters as a stepping stone to political success without addressing their needs. He added that although the people of Hyderabad have consistently supported Owaisi and his party, their loyalty has yet to be reciprocated with meaningful development. Instead, he said, AIMIM and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have polarised the community, leading to the labelling of localities as Hindu-dominated or Muslim-dominated. In contrast, the real issue is widespread poverty and unemployment.
He strongly condemned Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks during a BJP roadshow in the Old City. ‘On one hand, Amit Shah tried to incite communal hatred with slogans like “Liberate Hyderabad from Razakars.” On the other hand, he appealed to Muslims to vote for the BJP. This is a highly shameless approach. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making anti-Muslim remarks in his speeches, referring to members of the community as infiltrators. The BJP government has terrorized the community with mob-lynching and bulldozer politics, and now they’re shamelessly asking Muslims to vote for them,’ he said.

The Congress candidate pointed out that Amit Shah failed to mention anything about what the BJP government has done for Hyderabad over the last 10 years. ‘By inciting communal feelings and hatred, Amit Shah expects people to vote for the BJP, which is utterly condemnable,’ he added.”
He pointed out that most residents in the Old City are daily wage labourers, vendors, auto-rickshaw drivers, and other low-income workers. Their main concern is making ends meet, and both AIMIM and BJP have exploited their poverty to stifle opposition and prevent other political parties from gaining a foothold in the Old City.

Sameer Waliullah highlighted that despite Telangana’s state budget crossing Rs 2.50 lakh crore, the Old City of Hyderabad never received even Rs 500 crore for development. He assured that if the Congress party wins the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat, it will focus on developing the Old City and other neglected areas. He mentioned that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy refers to the Old City as the ‘Real Hyderabad’ and has already initiated projects worth over Rs 50,000 crore in the city. These include the Metro Rail and the Musi Riverfront Development Project. He assured that if the Congress party wins the Hyderabad seat, it will focus on the city’s development. He added that Congress has a clear vision for Hyderabad’s future. (Maxim News)
