Librarian’s Day: Celebrating The Guardians Of Knowledge At Osmania University

Hyderabad: On a vibrant Friday afternoon, the Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Library, in partnership with the Department of Library & Information Science, hosted an inspiring Librarian’s Day program at Osmania University. The event took place in the state-of-the-art e-Class Room (Jasper Hall) of the Arts College, Room No. 121.

Distinguished Guests:
The program was graced by Hon’ble OU Registrar, Professor P. Lakshminarayana, who delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the critical role libraries play in disseminating knowledge and the need for modernization in response to evolving technology. His insightful remarks highlighted the indispensable role librarians play in enriching society.

The event also featured Professor V. Vishwamohan, former Head of the Department of Library & Information Science, who paid tribute to Dr. Ranganathan’s pioneering efforts in library science, underscoring the lasting impact of his contributions.

Dr. Bhojaraju Gunjal, Chief Library Officer at IIT Hyderabad, was another esteemed guest. He captivated the audience with a dynamic PowerPoint presentation on “Recent Trends in Libraries and the Role of LIS Professionals,” showcasing IIT Hyderabad’s new library facilities and discussing cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence and RFID that are revolutionizing the field.

Celebrating Library Excellence:
The program was presided over by Professor Sayeda Talath Sultana, Principal of UCA&SS, OU, who added her perspective on the transformative role of libraries in society.

Dr. Achala Munigal, University Librarian of the Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Library, delivered a thought-provoking speech on the Five Laws of Library and Information Science (LIS), asserting that these principles are essential for shaping library practices and advancing societal progress.

Dr. Vivekavardhan, Head & CBoS, DLISc, OU, called for increased efforts to leverage technology to make knowledge accessible to all, reflecting the event’s forward-thinking spirit.

The event was coordinated by Dr. S. Yadagiri and Dr. A.S. Chakravarthy, with support from Joint Coordinators Kunde Srinivas and P. Linga Reddy, along with Library Assistants from UCA&SS.
