Hyderabad Flooding: Rains Cause Severe Waterlogging in Low-Lying Areas

Hyderabad, August 20: Hyderabad city experienced heavy flooding as rains battered the city from early Tuesday morning.

Major roads and residential colonies were submerged, with areas such as Dilsukhnagar, Kothapet, Sarurnagar, LB Nagar, Nagole, and Alkapuri bearing the brunt of the downpour.

Other affected areas include Ameerpet, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Khairatabad, Nampally, Bashir Bagh, Himayat Nagar, Abids, Kuthbullapur, Balanagar, Gajularamaram, Jagadgirigutta, Bahadurpally, Suraram, Suchitra, Gundla Pochampalli, Pate Basheerabad, and Jeedimetla.

In Vanasthalipuram, BN Reddy Nagar, Hayatnagar, Pedda Amberpet, and Abdullahpurmet, roads resembled ponds, with knee-deep water reported on the main road of Khairatabad. Residents of low-lying areas in Musheerabad, Ramnagar, Parsigutta, Buddha Nagar, and Gangaputra colonies faced severe difficulties due to extensive flooding.

Local reports indicate that an unidentified person was washed away in the floodwaters, and cars were swept away in some areas.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials have urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly in low-lying areas that are completely submerged. They advised people to stay indoors unless necessary.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad, warning of continued rainfall. The GHMC has also provided emergency contact numbers—040-21111111 and 9000113667—for assistance.

GHMC and Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams are actively engaged in relief efforts across the city.

Hyderabad More Rain is Expected Till 10:30 AM

The Hyderabad Meteorological Center has forecasted continued rainfall across Telangana today, due to surface circulation and a trough effect.

Central Telangana districts are likely to experience light to moderate rains with heavy showers, including the city, where the heavy rain is expected to persist until 10:30 AM, followed by a gradual decrease.
