Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that such programs will be useful in fighting deadly diseases like cancer. Cancer is the most dangerous of all non-communicable diseases. 

Many reasons including undisciplined lifestyle azre responsible for the prevalence of this disease.  He said that if 14 to 15 lakh cases are registered in India every year, 50 to 60 thousand cases are registered in Telangana.  He said that many people are losing their lives due to lack of awareness about cancer. He said that it is the responsibility of everyone to create awareness and prevent loss of life.

Doctors say that most cases of breast cancer are reported in women.  Breast cancer – related cases account for 14 per cent of the total women’s cancer burden.  Thus, treatment can be provided to cure the cancer completely.  Every woman was asked to come forward for screening.  He said that the  government is providing free screening and treatment.   Free screening will be done through mobile labs in every village.  He said that 6 cancer regional centers are going to be set up.   Doctors with full equipment will be taken to these centers.  It was revealed that MNJ Hospital will be the hub for all these centers. 

He said that cancer treatment is not done in one day or one week.  It goes on for months and years.  He said that physical, mental and financial support is very necessary for the patients.  for that, palliative rehabilitation centers are going to be set up.  Minister Damaodara Rajanarsimha said that diabetes clinics are going to be set up.

Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha Minister Surprise Visit 

After the cancer walk, the minister made a surprise visit to the cancer hospital.  On this occasion, Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha himself inspected all the departments of MNJ Cancer Hospital at the field level.  In this field visit, pathology labs, pet scan, city scan, MRI scan, memo gram, patient care parts, bone scan, ultrasound departments and palliative care units were inspected. 

The hospital director Dr. Srinivasulu was asked about their use and got the details.  How many cancer patients are coming to the hospital every day?  The doctors asked the nursing staff as well as the hospital staff about what kind of facilities are being provided to them.  The Minister inquired about the well being and problems of the patients who came for treatment.
