Bad News For Drug Addicts In Telangana: Huge Price Hike!
Hyderabad, Nov 1 (Maxim News): The excise department is working towards increasing the prices of liquor in Telangana state. It is reported that the government is planning to equalize the prices of alcohol in Andhra Pradesh.

Officials of the Excise Department say that soon there will be a possibility to increase the tax on beer by Rs. 20 and on liquor from Rs. 20 to Rs. 70 per quarter.
It is reported that the government estimates that by increasing the prices, there is a possibility of getting an additional income of Rs. 1000 crores every month. The Excise Department is not getting the revenue as expected by Telangana State Government. The number of cases registered by the department in the 6 months from April to September shows that there has been an increase in the manufacture, supply, and sale of illegal liquor along with Gudumba in the state.

While 9,108 gudumba cases were registered in the first six months of last year, 18,826 cases were registered during the same period this year, officials said that more than 10,000 people have been arrested in gudumba cases with double cases being registered.
The state government has ordered the officials of the excise department to go ahead strictly to curb the illegal supply of liquor and manufacture of gudumba. At the same time, the government has estimated that the excise department will earn more than Rs. 36 thousand crores through VAT and excise duties for this financial year.

In the 6 months from April to September of this financial year, the revenue received by the Excise Department was Rs. 9,493 crores through excise duty and another Rs. 8,040 crores through VAT. According to the figures of the Excise department, till now, revenue of Rs. 17,533 crore has been received from both of them. If the same amount is expected to come in the remaining six months, it is reported that this financial year is unlikely to exceed Rs. 35,000 crore. (Maxim News)
