Kharge Sends ‘Chadar’ To Ajmer Dargah, Shabbir Ali And Other Leaders Were Present

Hyderabad, January 4: All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge sent a ceremonial chadar to mark the 813th Urs of Sufi saint Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah on Saturday, reflecting his party’s commitment to secular traditions and communal harmony. The chadar was handed over to AICC Minority Department chairman & Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi for presentation at the dargah.

Prominent leaders, including Advisor to the Telangana Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir, former MP Mohammed Azharuddin, and Congress MP Syed Naser Hussain, were present during the occasion.

Expressing his sentiments, Kharge said, “With immense reverence, I feel fortunate to send this chadar on behalf of myself and the Congress Party. This tradition embodies the spirit of India’s composite culture, communal harmony, and mutual brotherhood.” He added that the offering symbolizes the nation’s commitment to peace, love, and unity, standing firm against divisive forces.

Kharge emphasized the role of such gestures in showcasing India’s deep-rooted secular ethos, which he described as impervious to attempts by individuals with distorted ideologies to disrupt it. Referring to the upcoming centenary of Mahatma Gandhi’s presidency of the Congress in 2025, Kharge said it reminded the nation of the values of inclusivity and the fight against discrimination that Mahatma Gandhi championed.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammed Ali Shabbir lauded the gesture as a reaffirmation of the Congress party’s dedication to upholding the legacy of India’s Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb. He highlighted that such events send a global message of India’s enduring communal harmony and unity.
