Hyderabad: Two youths lost their lives after being electrocuted in Bandlaguda on Tuesday evening, following heavy rains accompanied by strong winds that battered parts of the city.
The deceased were identified as Zafar (25) and Abu (16), both residents of Chandrayangutta.
Police said the incident occurred around 6 p.m. when the duo arrived in an auto-rickshaw and stepped out near a local hotel to have tea.
Live wire snapped during sudden rainstorm
According to Bandlaguda police, sudden rainfall and strong winds caused electric wires to fall from a pole onto the road, creating a dangerous situation in the area.
After stepping out of the vehicle, Abu accidentally came into contact with a live wire and suffered a severe electric shock.
Second youth died while trying to rescue
Police said Zafar rushed to rescue Abu but also came into contact with the same live wire, resulting in his electrocution.
Both youths died on the spot before emergency help could arrive.
Police begin investigation
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Officials are also expected to examine maintenance standards of electrical poles and rain-related safety protocols in the area.
The tragedy comes amid widespread disruption caused by heavy monsoon rains across Hyderabad, including waterlogging, traffic jams, and infrastructure damage.
