New Delhi, June 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday completed 12 years in office, becoming India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister, marking a major political milestone for the NDA government.
With this milestone, Modi has served 4,399 consecutive days as Prime Minister, surpassing all previous elected leaders in terms of uninterrupted tenure.
India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru served from 1947 until 1964, while Indira Gandhi held office for nearly 16 years across two separate terms.
NDA to pass resolution, felicitate PM
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to pass a resolution on Wednesday to mark the occasion.
PM Modi will also be felicitated by NDA leaders at a meeting attended by 72 alliance members, which he will chair.
Government highlights 12-year performance
Over the past 12 years, the government has cited major policy achievements including:
- Expansion of welfare schemes
- Digital infrastructure push including JAM trinity and UPI
- Massive infrastructure growth in roads, railways and airports
- Strengthening of defence and security systems
- Implementation of major social welfare programmes
BJP leaders also credited the government for reducing poverty and expanding financial inclusion through schemes such as PMAY, Mudra loans and Jan Dhan accounts.
Global recognition and political messaging
Leaders from countries including Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, and Trinidad and Tobago congratulated Modi, praising India’s governance model and global leadership role.
According to party sources, the BJP will highlight these achievements throughout the week as part of a larger outreach campaign.
PM Modi is also expected to chair a meeting of NDA Chief Ministers and Deputy CMs on Thursday, focusing on policy implementation, governance review, and the “Viksit Bharat” roadmap.
Discussions are also likely on the impact of global geopolitical tensions, including the West Asia crisis.
