Hyderabad, Mar 8 (Maxim News): Calling for a well-defined roadmap to uplift women financially in the state. BRS leader and MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Saturday wanted the State government to present a comprehensive plan on how they intend to make women millionaires.
Speaking at the International Women’s Day celebrations held at Telangana Bhavan on Saturday, she highlighted the political setbacks faced by women due to the non-implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill, which has been tied to the census by the Central government.
She lauded former Chief Minister Central government’s governance and emphasised his pro-women initiatives and welfare schemes. She blamed the present government for dismantling these programs.
Kavitha noted that while 40 per cent of women in the USA are employed, the figure is only 17 per cent in India.
She highlighted that if 50 per cent of women in the country were employed, it could contribute Rs. 5 lakh crore to the nation’s GDP. However, she questioned whether the necessary facilities are in place for women to work.
She acknowledged the progress women have made, from working in underground mines to venturing into space, but emphasised the need to overcome the numerous obstacles that still exist.
She expressed pride in the brave women like Chityala Ailamma and Rani Rudrama Devi, who were born on Telangana soil, and emphasised that women have no caste or religion – they belong to one community.
Kavitha urged women to unite and fight for their rights and called for an end to the perception of women as second-class citizens in households.
Holding the Congress government accountable for its commitments, Kavitha reminded them of their promise to provide Rs. 2,500 to every woman. (Maxim News)
