Hyderabad, April 23 (Maxim News): In a significant show of unity and resistance, the United Muslim Forum has called on the public to support a symbolic protest on Wednesday, April 30, by switching off lights for 10 minutes at 9 PM.
The peaceful demonstration—dubbed the “Lights Off” protest—is being organized in solidarity with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) to oppose the controversial Waqf Act 2025.
The Forum expressed strong support for the AIMPLB’s campaign, hailing the massive protests recently held at Hyderabad’s Darussalam and Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium as historic moments of public awakening.
Leaders said these gatherings reflected a growing national consensus against what they called a “black law” that threatens Waqf properties and undermines constitutional rights.
The United Muslim Forum, which includes prominent religious scholars and community leaders like Maulana Mufti Syed Sadiq Mohiuddin Faheem, Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, and others, appealed to Imams, mosque administrators, and community organizations to actively encourage participation in the protest. They emphasized the role of Friday sermons in raising awareness and called for continued efforts to safeguard Waqf institutions.
In their statement, Forum leaders also addressed recent criticism directed at the judiciary about the Waqf Act hearings. They condemned public attacks on the judicial process, pointing out that the case is still in preliminary stages and no stay order has been issued. “Those who once praised the judiciary after the Babri Masjid–Ram Janmabhoomi verdict are now unfairly targeting it. This inconsistency is harmful to the rule of law,” they said, calling such remarks from constitutional authorities a form of judicial contempt.
The Forum also strongly denounced the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed several innocent lives. They questioned the government’s claims of restoring peace in the region, citing its failure to ensure the safety of civilians. The Forum urged calm and called for continued prayers for peace and stability.
As the April 30 protest approaches, the Forum has asked the general public, regardless of faith, to participate in this silent act of resistance by turning off their lights at 9 PM. They hope the 10-minute blackout sends a powerful message of unity, justice, and constitutional commitment. (Maxim News)
