Hyderabad: In a significant move towards bridging the rural-urban skill divide and empowering women at the grassroots, the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), Hyderabad Chapter, inaugurated its Rural Skill Centre in Bhongir on Thursday.

A function held at the premises of the Government Junior College in Bhongir town aims to transform the lives of rural women by equipping them with employable skills and entrepreneurial capabilities.
The Centre was inaugurated by Kumbam Anil Kumar Reddy, Member of Legislative Assembly, in the presence of Mr M. Hanumantha Rao, Dist Collector Yadadri Bhuvanagiri (Bhongir) and Mrs. Poonam Sharma, National President of FLO, as Guest of Honour, Ms Ramani, DEO, Mr. Papi Reddy, Principal of Junior College, Ms Kirthi, Daughter of MLA

The District Collector Hanumantha Rao highlighted the importance of Skills. Skills are important than education.
He appreciated FLO for running 4 different courses—Tailoring, Maggam, Beautician, Digital Literacy and Wedding-related courses. Soon, they will also start driving training and employ deserving candidates. You can only stand on your own feet and gain financial independence with the skills he added.
Ms Poonam Sharma, FICCI National President, said you can make India a developed nation without involving half of its womenfolk in economic activity. She hoped that these women would grow from the classroom to the boardroom.
Through the newly opened skill centre, FLO aims to train 200 students in each of the disciplines for 45 days, and they aim to train 2000 women in the current year.
“This is more than a training centre—it is a launchpad for dignity, self-reliance, and economic inclusion of rural women,” said Ms. Prathibha Kunda, Chairperson, FLO Hyderabad Chapter. “We believe that empowering one woman in a village has the power to uplift an entire community.”
The FLO Rural Skill Centre in Bhongir is designed to offer structured training programs in tailoring, handloom, basic IT skills, and micro-entrepreneurship, in partnership with local experts and industry mentors. The initiative aligns with FLO’s national agenda of promoting entrepreneurship, sustainability, and heritage revival through skill development.
Mrs. Poonam Sharma, speaking on the occasion, remarked: “This initiative is a shining example of FLO’s commitment to grassroots development. When women are given the right skills and confidence, they not only transform their own lives, but also become agents of change in their families and villages.”
With this launch, FLO Hyderabad becomes one of the first chapters in South India to establish a dedicated rural skill development facility under the FLO banner. The Centre is expected to benefit over 300 women annually, creating pathways to income generation and financial empowerment.
FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) is the women’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), India’s apex business chamber. With over 25 chapters and 12,000 members nationwide, FLO continues to lead from the front in enabling women-led change across sectors.
