IIIT Hyderabad Holds 24th Convocation: 529 Graduates Honoured; Debjani Ghosh Urges Youth to Lead with Purpose and Integrity

Hyderabad, July 12, 2025: The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH) hosted its 24th Convocation Ceremony, awarding degrees to 529 graduating students from various disciplines. The event was graced by Ms. Debjani Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow at NITI Aayog and former President of NASSCOM, who served as the Chief Guest.

In a compelling convocation address, Debjani Ghosh encouraged students to lead meaningful lives rooted in purpose and integrity. “Build real human connections, not just networks,” she emphasized. She also shared five guiding principles for success: express gratitude, live with purpose, embrace failures, guard your integrity, and foster genuine relationships.

Top Honours and Awards

  • Vineeth Bhat, B.Tech (Honours) in Computer Science and Engineering, received the Gold Medal for academic excellence.
  • Revanth Kumar Gundam, a dual degree student, was named Best All-Rounder for excellence across academics and campus activities.
  • Pradeep Kumar Pal, Ph.D. in Computational Natural Sciences, was awarded the Banyan Award for outstanding voluntary contributions.

Leadership Transition

During the event, it was officially announced that Prof. P.J. Narayanan will soon step down as IIITH Director after a 12-year tenure. Prof. Sandeep K. Shukla, a distinguished professor from IIT Kanpur and an expert in cybersecurity and embedded systems, will take over as Director in August 2025.

Prof. Shukla expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “It’s a tremendous honour to lead IIITH. I look forward to taking this remarkable institute to greater heights.”

    • Dual Degree – 101
    • MS by Research – 49
    • M.Tech – 141
    • Ph.D. – 17
    • MSIT – 48
  • 610+ research papers were published in top international journals and conferences during the academic year.
  • 128 companies registered for campus placements, with 75 conducting interviews.

Graduating students expressed aspirations of contributing meaningfully to society and technology:

  • Vineeth Bhat, now working at Stripe, aims to become an entrepreneur.
  • Revanth Kumar, interning at Google while pursuing a dual master’s, is focused on lifelong learning.
  • Lakshya Shastri, great-grandson of former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri, is working at a startup and plans to pursue further studies.

IIITH’s Vision for the Future

Chairman Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala emphasized the unique position of IIITH as a public institute not owned or funded by the government. He urged alumni to give back and help the next generation. “You’ve learned how to learn. Continue this journey in the real world,” he said.

Director Prof. Narayanan encouraged graduates to carry forward IIITH’s values of innovation, creativity, and social responsibility. “Travel your life’s journey with concern and care for society,” he said.

The convocation reinforced IIITH’s standing as a premier institution shaping the next generation of technologists, researchers, and changemakers.
