The SEC has asked officials to prepare a detailed database of staff required for polling duties, categorized by districts, revenue divisions, mandals, wards, and panchayats. The instruction is being viewed as an indication that the local body election schedule may be announced soon, triggering administrative preparations at multiple levels.

The Commission’s directive includes compiling manpower details based on the number of wards in each panchayat and urban local body. This includes personnel for booth-level duties, supervisory roles, and logistics support during the election process.

With this move, election readiness has gained momentum across the state, signaling that the countdown to panchayat and municipal polls may have begun. The data collection is also seen as part of the SEC’s larger strategy to ensure transparent, efficient, and timely elections as mandated by the recent High Court directive to hold polls within the stipulated time.

Local authorities have already begun the task of mapping polling stations, verifying electoral rolls, and coordinating with departments to mobilize required staff.
