Massive Hypermarket Fire Kills 50 In Iraq Wasit Province
Baghdad/Internet/Hyderabad, July 17 (Maxim News): Around 50 people were killed in a massive fire at a hypermarket in Iraq’s Wasit province, the regional governor said on Thursday.
Wasit Governor Mohammed Jamil Al-Mayahi declared a three-day mourning period following the tragic fire in central Kut, which occurred while families were dining and shopping.
Authorities said the death toll may rise further, and search operations for missing persons are ongoing. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
In a statement to the state-run INA, Governor Al-Mayahi expressed deep sorrow, calling it a “devastating tragedy for the people of Kut and all of Wasit.”
He also confirmed that legal action has been initiated against the mall owners and others involved, and promised that preliminary investigation results would be made public within 48 hours. (Maxim News)
