Intermediate Student Dies by Suicide in Residential School

Nizamabad/Hyderabad, July 19, 2025 – In yet another heartbreaking incident, a second-year intermediate student of the Velpur Social Welfare Boys Residential College in Telangana died by suicide on Saturday morning. The tragic incident occurred on the outskirts of Armoor, raising serious questions about student mental health, emotional support systems, and security lapses in government residential institutions.

The deceased, G. Santosh, hailed from Arepally village in Nizamsagar mandal and was pursuing the BiPC stream. According to early reports, Santosh had joined the routine morning physical drills around 6:30 am. A short while later, he left the field without informing anyone and did not return to the hostel. His absence raised alarm among fellow students, who began searching the premises. Tragically, they discovered him hanging from a tree outside the college boundary.

The Velpur and Armoor Social Welfare Residential Colleges, which currently share the same premises, are now under scrutiny following the latest incident, which has highlighted potential security flaws. Students and staff alike are questioning how the student managed to leave the premises unnoticed, suggesting a serious gap in campus monitoring and safety.

Authorities were immediately alerted. The college management informed the local police, and a case has been registered. An investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact reasons and circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

The tragedy has once again drawn attention to the growing mental health crisis among students, especially those in residential educational institutions. It also highlights the pressing need for counseling services, enhanced emotional support systems, and more robust campus security protocols.

This is not the first such incident in Telangana’s welfare residential schools, which serve thousands of underprivileged students. Experts and parents are urging the government to review existing systems and take concrete steps to ensure the safety and well-being of students living away from their families.
