Heavy Rains Lash Telangana | Hyderabad, July 19: Torrential rains pounded several parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, on Friday, severely affecting daily life and bringing traffic to a halt in many areas.
Central Telangana districts bore the brunt of the downpour, which began around 3 PM and continued late into the night.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Pulkal, Sangareddy district, at 12.9 cm, followed by 11.5 cm in Picket, Secunderabad. Several districts including Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Janagama, Peddapalli, Medak, Yadadri, Siddipet, and Nirmal also witnessed heavy rainfall.
Streets turned into streams as nalas, canals, and drains overflowed, leading to severe waterlogging across the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region. The worst affected areas were low-lying localities, where residents were stranded due to rising water levels.

The heavy evening rain caused traffic snarls on major routes such as Kukatpally to MGBS, Uppal to Begumpet, Ramanthapur to Chaderghat, and LB Nagar, as officegoers and school vehicles clogged the roads. Main roads resembled ravines, forcing many commuters to take the Metro, which saw a significant spike in ridership.
Tragically, a 35-year-old woman named Lakshmi lost her life when a wall collapsed in Nadargul, under the Adibatla police station limits, Nalgonda district.
Rescue operations were swiftly launched by personnel from GHMC, HYDRAA, SDRF, and the Cantonment Board, with teams using boats to evacuate people from submerged areas.
CM Revanth Reddy Issues High Alert
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed all concerned departments — GHMC, HMDA, HMWSSB, Electricity Board, Police, SDRF, and HYDRAA teams—to stay on high alert and respond immediately to public complaints. In a statement, the CM Revanth emphasized the need for inter-departmental coordination to mitigate the impact of the rains.
