Fresh Inflows Boost Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar Reservoirs After Heavy Rains

Hyderabad, July 19, 2025 (Maxim News): Fresh inflows have been recorded in the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs following heavy overnight rainfall in their respective catchment areas. The inflows began early Saturday, rejuvenating the twin reservoirs that play a crucial role in Hyderabad’s water supply system.

According to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), areas including Chevella, Vikarabad, Shankarpally, Mominpet, and Dobi Peta received significant rainfall on Friday night. The runoff from these regions is now flowing into Osmansagar via the Musi River.

Similarly, Himayatsagar is receiving inflows from upstream areas such as Chevella, Andapur, Kotwalpura, Narkuda, Tandur, and Moinabad. These inflows are entering the reservoir through the Esi River.

The Water Board has confirmed that there is no outflow from either reservoir at the moment, and all gates remain closed. However, officials are closely monitoring the situation and have assured that emergency services are on standby in case of any eventuality.

    • Current Water Level: 1782.50 feet (2.440 TMC)
    • Inflow: 1,250 cusecs
    • Outflow: Nil
  • Himayatsagar Reservoir:
    • Full Tank Level (FTL): 1763 feet (2.970 TMC)
    • Current Water Level: 1758.80 feet (2.114 TMC)
    • Inflow: 16,000 cusecs
    • Outflow: Nil

Authorities have advised residents in surrounding low-lying areas to stay updated with official announcements. While there is currently no risk of flooding, officials have urged caution due to the possibility of further rainfall in the coming days.

The inflows have come as a relief amid growing concerns over water levels during the monsoon. The HMWSSB continues to monitor the reservoirs closely to ensure the safety of communities and proper water resource management.
