The green initiative was launched in collaboration with the Sustainable Green Initiative (SGI) and backed by international partners One Tree Planted USA and FedEx Corporation USA. The plantation effort reflects IIITH’s long-standing commitment to developing a smart, eco-friendly campus and promoting urban afforestation.

“Supporting Sustainable Green Initiative (SGI) was a natural extension of our values and annual plantation efforts,” said an IIITH spokesperson. “This drive not only enhances biodiversity but also inspires wider environmental action.

SGI and IIITH: Partnering for a Greener Hyderabad

The Sustainable Green Initiative (SGI) has played a key role in Hyderabad’s ecological revival by planting trees, restoring degraded landscapes, and promoting urban biodiversity.

“As cities expand and green spaces shrink, partnerships like these between academic institutions, corporations, and civil society become critical,” said an SGI representative. “They’re not just symbolic gestures—they’re a step toward long-term environmental impact.”

SGI aims to scale these efforts by working closely with local communities, schools, and businesses across Hyderabad and beyond.

A Call to Collective Climate Action

With the planting of 1,200 saplings, IIITH hopes to inspire other institutions and communities to embrace sustainability as a shared responsibility. The initiative sets a precedent for green campus movements and reflects the growing role of educational institutions in driving climate consciousness.
