Srinivas Goud Slams Congress Govt For Targeting Toddy Industry

Hyderabad, July 21 (Maxim News): Former Minister V. Srinivas Goud has launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Telangana government, accusing it of bowing to the liquor mafia and conspiring to shut down toddy compounds within Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, the senior BRS leader alleged that the state government was deliberately spreading misinformation about adulterated toddy to justify a ban, with the hidden agenda of boosting liquor company profits and earning commissions.

“Under the pretext of safety, the Congress is planning to dismantle the toddy industry, which will severely affect the livelihoods of at least 10 traditional communities,” said Srinivas Goud. He emphasized that toddy and neera are not only cultural and traditional beverages but also hold medicinal properties and are a source of employment for thousands across the state.

Goud accused the ruling Congress of betraying its pre-election promises to safeguard and promote traditional occupations. “If even a single toddy compound is closed under Congress rule, the BRS will reopen them when we return to power and stand with the Goud community,” he warned.

He further slammed the government for failing to tackle the growing menace of drugs, ganja, and adulterated milk, even as it focused on dismantling legitimate and traditional sources of income.

The remarks come amid growing concerns among toddy tapper communities about the state’s intent to regulate or restrict toddy operations under the guise of public health and safety.

Srinivas Goud’s strong rebuttal is being seen as an attempt to rally support among backward castes and traditional workers, positioning the BRS as a defender of heritage occupations in contrast to what he described as the Congress’s corporate-friendly and anti-poor stance.
