The announcement was made by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he hailed the success as a “major boost to India’s defence capabilities.”

“Congratulations to DRDO and the industry partners, DPSUs, MSMEs and start-ups for the development and successful trials of the ULPGM-V3 system. This success proves that Indian industry is now ready to absorb and produce critical defence technologies,” Singh posted.

What is ULPGM-V3?

The ULPGM-V3 is a next-generation precision strike missile that can be launched from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The system is designed to enhance India’s surveillance and combat capabilities by enabling high-precision strikes against enemy targets with minimal collateral damage.

It is particularly useful in mountainous and inaccessible terrains, offering strategic advantages in modern warfare scenarios. The missile is expected to significantly bolster India’s combat UAV fleet in coming years.

A Collaborative Defence Milestone

The development and successful testing of the ULPGM-V3 system is the result of a collaborative effort between DRDO and Indian industry partners, including defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs), medium and small enterprises (MSMEs), and start-ups working in the defence technology space.

This marks another step forward in India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative in the defence sector, promoting indigenous R&D and manufacturing capabilities.

Strategic Significance

Experts believe the successful trial of the ULPGM-V3 will provide a vital edge to the Indian Armed Forces, especially in high-altitude and border operations. The system’s integration with UAVs allows for stealthier, faster, and more precise engagements—a game-changer in modern combat strategy.
