Pet-Basheerabad Police Busted Commercial Surrogacy And Illegal Egg Trading Racket

Hyderabad, Aug 15 (Maxim News): Acting on reliable information, the Pet-Basheerabad Police have busted a major racket involving commercial surrogacy and illegal human egg trading, operated by a network of 7 women and 1 man in collusion with several fertility centres in Hyderabad. The accused were exploiting the desperation of infertile couples for illegal monetary gain.

The arrested accused are 1. Narreddula Laxmi Reddy @ Laxmi w/o Chenna Reddy, aged 45 years, r/o. Chintal, Quthbullapur, N/o. Chilakaluripeta, AP., (2) Narreddula Narender Reddy s/o N. Chenna Reddy, aged 27 years, Occ:unemployed, R/o. Chinthal, Quthbullapur. Donors / Surrogate mothers: (3) Golconda Sai Leela w/o G. Dilip, age 39 years, N/o. Kanapur, Basavakalyan Mandal, Bidar District, Karnataka. (4) Malagalla Venkata Laxmi w/o Venkateshwarlu, age 30 years, N/o. Chinna Beerampally, Rampachowdavaram, AP State. (5) P. Sunitha w/o P. Venkat Reddy, age 23 years, N/o. Neerukonda Village, Rampachodavaram Mandal, Alluri Seetharamaraju District, AP State. (6) Sadala Satyavathi w/o Koduri Durga Prasad, age 29 years, N/o. Chinna Beerampally, Rampachowdavaram, AP State. (7) 7. Pantada Aparna w/o P. Naresh, age 30 years, N/o. Vepagunta, Pendurthi Mandal, Vijayanagaram District. (8) J. Ramanamma w/o J. Adinarayana, age 39 years, N/o. Pospeta Rega Village & Mandal, Vijayanagaram District.

The material seized from their possession are Rs. Rs. 6,47,000/- cash from the possession of Narreddula Laxmi Reddy., Lenovo laptop, Promissory Notes, and Non-Judicial Bond Papers from Narreddula Narender Reddy @ Laxmi, Large quantity of Dispo Van syringes (2 ml, 3 ml, 5 ml), pregnancy medicines, and hormone injections (Progesterone), Case sheets of Sai Leela and Neha from Hegde Hospital. Five smartphones and one keypad mobile phone from the accused persons.

Hospital / Fertility Clinics involved (yet to verified their veracity): Hegde Fertility Hospital (Madhapur), Anu Test Tube Centre (Somajiguda), FertyCare (Banjara Hills), EVA IVF,  Amulya IVF Centre, Sree Fertility Centre (Kondapur).

According to P. Shobhan Kumar Dy Commissioner of Police of SOT, the investigation revealed that the prime accused Narreddula Laxmi Reddy @ Laxmi, had earlier worked as an egg donor and surrogate mother. Using her experience and network of contacts with other agents, fertility clinics, and centres, she began recruiting women to act as egg donors or surrogate mothers and referred them to the aforementioned fertility centres. For each successful procedure, she collected substantial amounts of money. She targeted financially vulnerable women, persuading them to donate eggs or become surrogates, and kept them at her residence, collecting additional maintenance charges from the hospitals.

Her son, Narender Reddy, a Chemical Engineering graduate from JNTU,assisted her in running this illegal business, which served as their sole source of income. The donors and surrogate mothers involved were aware that commercial surrogacy is prohibited by law but participated for financial gain. The alleged involvement of the fertility clinics and centres mentioned is still under verification.

Upon receiving credible information, a special police team conducted a raid on the said premises in the presence of the District Medical & Health Officer. During the operation, the accused persons involved in commercial surrogacy and illegal human egg trade were apprehended. The operation was duly conducted in accordance with legal norms, and a case was registered against the accused U/S 38,39,40,41 Surrogacy Regulation Act, 33,34 Of Asst Reproductive technology Act 318(4), 61(2) BNS Act. A detailed investigation has been initiated. The arrested individuals are being produced before the before the Court for judicial proceedings. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other persons connected to this illegal racket.

Under the leadership of P Shobhan Kumar Dy.Commissioner of Police of SOT, A. Vishwa Prasad, Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police of SOT Medchal Zone, Cyberabad, and the supervision of A.C. Bala Gangi Reddy, Asst. Commissioner of Police, Pet-Basheerabad, Cyberabad, a dedicated police team, SOT Medchal Team conducted raid and apprehended the involved accused persons with assistance of Dr. C. Uma Gouri, DM&HO, Medchal-Malkajgiri District in Scene of offence and seized the material evidence. (Maxim News)
