Amit Shah Calls for Strengthening Speaker’s Dignity, Smooth Functioning of Parliament
Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug 24 (Maxim News): Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the All India Speakers Conference in Delhi. The two-day conference begins to commemorate the centenary of Vithalbhai Patel’s election as the first Indian Speaker of the Central legislative Assembly.
The Home Minister also inaugurated a special exhibition showcasing rare archival records, photographs and documents related to Vithalbhai Patel and the evolution of Indian parliamentary institutions.
The Home Minister said that as important as the country’s freedom is, it is equally important to run the country democratically after independence. He added that Vithalbhai Patel laid the foundation for running the country democratically based on the ideas of Indians.
Shah stressed the need to work to enhance the dignity of the House and the dignity of the Speaker. Amit Shah wanted the House to provide an impartial platform to raise the issues of the people of our country. He said that it is the responsibility of every member to ensure that the House functions properly as per the rules of the House. Amit Shah said that the objective of the meeting is to strengthen transparency, efficiency and responsiveness in lawmaking, with a special focus on digital innovations such as AI-based tools.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the two-day Speakers Conference will be very useful in exploring new approaches to the functioning of the legislatures. Rijiju said that Parliament and the assemblies are the local points of a parliamentary democracy and if both do not function properly, questions arise about democracy. He stressed that it is very important that Parliament and state assemblies function smoothly. Rijiju said that there is a difference between opposition and obstruction and it is the right of opposition members to do so, but they cannot disrupt the functioning.
The speakers and deputy speakers of the state legislative assemblies, as well as the chairmen and deputy chairmen of the state legislative councils, were present in the program. Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K.Saxena, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and Ministers were also present. (Maxim News)
