The US federal appeals court has ruled that the tariff hikes are unconstitutional and that Trump does not have the legal right to do so.

It has made it clear that most of the tariffs imposed by Trump are illegal. It has commented that he has exceeded his economic powers and increased the tariffs excessively. It has stated that many countries have been severely affected by the heavy tariffs imposed.

However, it has allowed the current increased tariffs to continue until mid-October. The judges have issued a verdict in this regard by a margin of 7-4. The verdict has been allowed to be challenged in the US Supreme Court.

Trump, who took office as the US President for the second time in January this year, is known to be taking controversial decisions under the banner of ‘America First’. As part of this, Trump brought the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose tariffs on every country doing business with the superpower.

A 10 percent tariff was imposed as a baseline. The imposition of 50 percent tariffs on India on the pretext of purchasing oil from Russia has become a topic of discussion everywhere. There is criticism at home and abroad about this.

Meanwhile, Trump responded to the appeals court ruling and said that America will prevail in the end. He posted on his social media platform Truth, criticizing the appeals court ruling. He said that the tariffs imposed on all countries are currently in effect.
