India Announces ₹6,004 Crore Special Package for Mauritius

Varanasi/Hyderabad, Sept 12 (Maxim News): The Indian government has announced a special economic package of 680 million dollars (Rs. 6,004 crore) to Mauritius. The two countries have decided to further strengthen bilateral relations in key areas. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritian Prime Minister Naveen Chandra Ramgoolam met in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on thursday. They discussed bilateral relations between India and Mauritius in a wide range of ways.

On this occasion, seven agreements were signed between the two countries aimed at enhancing cooperation in areas such as education, energy, hydrography, and space research. Narendra Modi said that India and Mauritius are not just partners, they are one family.

He explained that a free, secure, stable and prosperous Indian Ocean is a matter of common interest for both countries. After meeting Naveen Chandra, Modi issued a statement. He said that India is committed to strengthening the security of the Mauritius Special Economic zone. He announced that UPI payments and Rupay cards have become available in Mauritius, and in this context, steps will be taken to ensure that trade between the two countries is done in local currencies. These include a port, airport, roads, schools and hospitals.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized that this is not financial assistance but an investment in the common future of the two countries. He made it clear that although India and Mauritius are two different countries, their dreams and future are the same.

Modi Supports Mauritius on Chagos Treaty

Modi congratulated naveen Chandra and the people of Mauritius on the signing of the Chagos Treaty. He stressed that this is a historic victory of the sovereignty of Mauritius. He said that he will always stand by Mauritius. He said that his support will definitely be there for the full recognition of the sovereignty of Mauritius. Prime Minister Modi said that it has been decided to set up a new Directorate of Science and Technology in Mauritius.

He said that ‘Mission Karmayogi‘ will soon be launched in Mauritius to provide training in science and technology. He made it clear that the partnership between India and Mauritius in research, education and innovation is sure to reach new heights. It is known that the United kingdom agreed to hand over the Chagos islands o Mauritius in may this year. The UK has given up its rights over these islands. Meanwhile, Mauritius prime Minister Naveen Chandra will be in India till 16th of this month.  (Maxim News)
