The corporation stated that additional charges will be collected on all categories of city buses. As per the new structure, passengers will pay ₹5 more for the first three stages, while fares will go up by ₹10 from the fourth stage onwards. This increase applies to both ordinary and other city bus services operating within the twin cities.

Fare hike to affect city commuters

The announcement has drawn strong reactions from passengers, many of whom rely on city buses as their primary mode of transport. With Hyderabad already struggling with traffic congestion and rising fuel prices, the hike in RTC fares adds another burden for middle-class families and daily wage workers who depend on public transport.

TGRTC officials have defended the decision, citing operational costs and the need to sustain services as the primary reasons. They pointed out that despite the hike, city buses remain the most economical mode of travel compared to private transport.

Implementation from October 6

The fare hike will officially come into force on Sunday, October 6. Passengers across the twin cities will begin paying the revised rates from that date. TGRTC also clarified that the increase is uniform and will be applicable to all city bus routes, ensuring no exceptions in fare collection.

With the festive season underway, the timing of the decision has sparked debate. While the corporation insists the hike is necessary for smooth functioning, passengers have voiced concerns that the additional cost could hit household budgets.
