Hyderabad, August 5 (Maxim News): Telangana Revenue, Housing, Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Wednesday asserted that the state government will ensure that no poor person or genuine landowner suffers injustice in matters relating to lands listed under Section 22A of the Registration Act.
He said the government is committed to protecting the rights of eligible landowners while safeguarding government lands from illegal transactions and encroachments.
Reviewing issues related to 22A prohibited lands within the Telangana Core Urban Region (TCUR) at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, the minister directed district collectors across the state to dispose of all applications and complaints within the stipulated timeline and in accordance with legal provisions.
The high level review meeting examined reports published in various media, public grievances, High Court directions, and the government’s policy regarding 22A prohibited lands. Chief Minister’s Special Secretary Sheshadri, Revenue Principal Secretary D.S. Lokesh Kumar, Inspector General of Stamps and Registration Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu, collectors of Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Sangareddy districts, the Additional Collector of Medchal Malkajgiri, and senior officials attended the meeting.
The minister clarified that since the Congress government assumed office under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, not a single cent of land has been intentionally added to the 22A prohibited list.
He dismissed allegations that the government was indiscriminately including undisputed private lands in the prohibited category, calling such claims completely baseless.
Ponguleti said officials must clearly understand the government’s policy and implement it in the same spirit. He emphasized that ensuring justice for eligible landowners and protecting government land are equally important responsibilities.
He instructed officials to conduct a comprehensive verification of lands included in the prohibited list and identify properties that are legally eligible for removal after examining records, ownership documents, and applicable laws. Every case, he said, should be decided based on facts and legal evidence instead of assumptions.
The minister directed tahsildars, Revenue Divisional Officers, sub collectors, and district collectors to ensure that all 22A-related applications and complaints are disposed of within the prescribed timeframe without keeping any case pending. He also instructed officials to give special priority to petitions received through the Prajavani grievance redressal programme and complete inquiries at the earliest.
Ponguleti further directed officials to comply with the High Court’s order requiring disposal of 22A land disputes within 45 days. He said court directions must be duly considered while resolving cases to ensure that justice is delivered to genuine landowners.
Reiterating that protecting government land remains the state’s foremost responsibility, the minister instructed officials to remain vigilant against illegal registrations, fraudulent land transactions, and encroachments. He reminded district collectors that they have the authority to take final decisions on lands under the 22A prohibited list after conducting a thorough examination.
He urged collectors to maintain complete transparency while balancing the interests of genuine landowners with the need to protect government assets, ensuring that no eligible person is deprived of legitimate rights while preventing the misuse of public land. (Maxim News)
