Hyderabad Road | Hyderabad, Oct 16: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation said it has repaired 15,925 potholes out of 18,087 identified across Hyderabad as part of its Road Safety initiative, according to a press release.
Officials said the drive aims to ease traffic bottlenecks and improve commuter safety and convenience across major corridors and residential stretches. The update highlights the scale of work under way and the remaining backlog to reach full coverage.
The GHMC also reported allied works that support smoother traffic and drainage. Teams restored 805 catchpits, replaced 388 covers, and repaired 18 central medians. These tasks help reduce waterlogging and improve lane discipline. Therefore, the corporation linked the multi-pronged effort to safer and faster commutes, especially during peak hours and adverse weather.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan emphasised the goal of complete pothole coverage with priority on speed, quality, and minimal public inconvenience. Under his directive, field teams have been mobilised for rapid and effective road restoration. Meanwhile, the corporation said it is pushing to close the gap on the remaining identified potholes as part of the same drive, keeping the focus on timely execution.

Zone-wise progress shows broad activity across the city. Secunderabad led with 3,774 potholes fixed, while LB Nagar recorded 3,032. Kukatpally followed with 2,508, then Khairatabad at 2,433, Charminar with 2,415, and Serilingampally at 1,763. These figures indicate steady improvements in high-traffic areas, even as teams continue to address pending stretches. Also, the reported catchpit and median works support the pothole repairs by improving drainage and road median integrity.
Officials reiterated the push for speed and quality, noting that the works target both urgent safety hazards and persistent road stress points. Then, with catchpit restorations and cover replacements logged, the corporation underlined a citywide approach to road upkeep. Therefore, the GHMC framed the update as a milestone in its ongoing Road Safety effort while it works to complete the remaining repairs.
