Jubilee Hills By Polls: Nagender Appointed As Congress Star Campaigner

  • AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal issues official appointment note
  • Supreme Court deadline for Speaker’s decision on defected MLAs approaches

Hyderabad, Oct 20 (Maxim News): A significant political development has taken place in Telangana as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) appointed defected MLA Danam Nagender as the star campaigner for the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election.

The appointment was made official through a note sent by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal to the Returning Officer.

Danam Nagender, who originally won as the Khairatabad MLA on a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) ticket, later switched allegiance to the Congress party. He also contested the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat as a Congress candidate, receiving the party’s official B-form. His inclusion as a star campaigner marks a bold move by the Congress leadership amid ongoing political uncertainty over disqualification petitions.

The Supreme Court had earlier directed the Telangana Assembly Speaker to decide on the disqualification pleas of ten MLAs who defected from BRS to the Congress party. The court set a three-month deadline in July 2025, requiring a decision by October 31. Following this, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar issued notices to the defected MLAs asking them to provide their explanations. However, reports indicate that Danam Nagender has not yet submitted his response to the Speaker.

Meanwhile, BRS supporters have taken to social media to criticize the situation, claiming that even AICC leaders in Delhi are aware of Nagender’s defection, while the Speaker in Hyderabad remains indecisive. On the other hand, Congress sources suggest that the party may ask Danam Nagender to resign from his MLA post and contest again, rather than risk disqualification. This move, they argue, could strengthen the Congress narrative ahead of possible by-elections.

Political observers note that by-elections appear inevitable, whether through disqualification or resignation. The Speaker’s forthcoming decision, due before the Supreme Court’s October 31 deadline, is expected to have a major impact on Telangana’s evolving political scenario.(Maxim News)
