The officer, identified as Rathod Bikku Naik, was caught red-handed by ACB officials at his residence in Mancherial town on Saturday morning. The arrest was part of an operation led by Adilabad ACB ASP Madhu.

The incident has its roots in Naik’s previous posting as the in-charge Cooperative District Officer in Asifabad. During his tenure, an employee was suspended in November last year, and steps were needed for the employee’s reinstatement.

Naik allegedly demanded a total bribe of Rs 7 lakh from the suspended individual to facilitate both their reinstatement and approval of pending salary arrears. The ACB moved in when the first instalment payment of Rs 2 lakh was made, catching the officer in the act.

Shortly after Naik’s arrest, the ACB initiated a detailed inquiry at the District Cooperative Officer’s office situated in the Integrated Collectorate premises at Naspur, Mancherial district.
