According to the key points in the FIR, the incident was triggered when the accused attempted to snatch a mobile phone near Koti and fled the scene in an auto. The auto reportedly contained a total of three individuals.

A police team, including DCP Chaitanya and his gunman, Murthy, immediately gave chase to apprehend the suspects. The pursuit culminated in a confrontation where the events took a dangerous turn.

The FIR details that as the police team closed in, gunman Murthy tried to apprehend one of the suspects, identified as Omar. During this attempt, the other two accomplices managed to escape in the auto.

The FIR alleges that after pushing the officers down, Omar brandished a knife and attempted to stab and kill gunman Murthy. Faced with an imminent threat to his colleague’s life, DCP Chaitanya took decisive action.

In his complaint, the DCP states, “I opened fire to save our gunman.” This act of firing was carried out in self-defense to neutralize the deadly threat posed by the armed assailant.

This formal complaint by DCP Chaitanya provides the legal basis for the ongoing investigation into the Chaderghat firing incident.

It corroborates the earlier statements made by City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, who had also described the firing as an act of self-defense.

The injured suspect, Omar Ansari, has since been identified as a rowdy sheeter and is receiving medical treatment under police custody. The investigation is now focused on tracking the two accomplices who escaped and analyzing CCTV footage to build a comprehensive case. (Maxim News)
