- Telangana BJP complains to Election Commission over Azharuddin’s post
- Party alleges Congress violated the Model Code of Conduct in Jubilee Hills
Hyderabad, Oct 30 (Maxim News): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised strong objections to the appointment of former cricketer and former Congress MP Mohammad Azharuddin as a minister in the Telangana cabinet during the Jubilee Hills by-election period.
BJP leaders met Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Sudarshan Reddy to lodge a formal complaint, alleging that the move violated the election Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
A BJP team, including MLA Payal Shankar, former minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy, and members of the party’s legal cell, met the CEO and submitted a written complaint.
The party argued that appointing Azharuddin at a time when the by-election to the Jubilee Hills constituency is scheduled for November 11 amounts to influencing voters. BJP representatives claimed that the Congress government was using the ministerial post as a political tool to attract a particular section of the electorate.
Payal Shankar said that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had violated election rules by making the announcement during the enforcement of the code. “Giving Azharuddin a ministerial post while there is an election code is a violation of the code.
CM Revanth Reddy is doing politics with one section of voters,” he said. He added that if the Chief Minister had waited another ten days, the code would have ended, and that the Congress should refrain from decisions that could affect voters in the Jubilee Hills area. The BJP requested the CEO to stop the cabinet expansion process immediately.
Addressing reporters at BRK Bhavan, former minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy also criticized the government. He insisted that “the Election Commission should take permission for the expansion of the ministry. Azharuddin is being given a ministerial post for the votes of a section.”
He alleged that the Congress was expanding the cabinet purely for electoral gain. “Azhazruddin from that section is being given a ministry only for the sake of votes. The EC should give notices to the concerned officials if the CM violates the election code,” he stated.
The BJP’s formal complaint has brought the issue into focus, with the party demanding that the Election Commission intervene and ensure that no action is taken that could influence the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election.
