Azharuddin Takes Oath | Hyderabad, Oct. 31: Former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin took oath as a Minister at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday afternoon.

Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma administered the oath of office.

The induction of Azharuddin into the state cabinet comes days before the crucial Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll. Political observers see the move as a strategic effort by the Congress to strengthen its base among Muslim voters, who make up a significant share of the constituency’s electorate.

Party insiders said Azharuddin’s appointment aims to fill two key gaps in the 23-month-old Congress government — the lack of minority representation and the absence of a minister from Hyderabad district.
