Azharuddin Takes Oath | Hyderabad, Oct. 31: Former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin took oath as a Minister at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday afternoon.
Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma administered the oath of office.
The induction of Azharuddin into the state cabinet comes days before the crucial Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll. Political observers see the move as a strategic effort by the Congress to strengthen its base among Muslim voters, who make up a significant share of the constituency’s electorate.
Party insiders said Azharuddin’s appointment aims to fill two key gaps in the 23-month-old Congress government — the lack of minority representation and the absence of a minister from Hyderabad district.

The Congress leadership expects his inclusion to energize the party’s campaign and improve its connect with urban voters.
Azharuddin, a former Member of Parliament from Moradabad, joined active politics in 2009 after retiring from cricket.
He currently serves as the working president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee and has been active in the state’s political affairs.
His induction marks the Congress’s attempt to balance regional and community representation in the cabinet, as it prepares for a series of bypolls and the upcoming local body elections.
