Three Hyderabad women boxers to represent Telangana at nationals in Punjab

Hyderabad, November 28: Three young women boxers from Hyderabad, who represented their respective colleges at the Osmania University Inter-College Boxing Championship held at Nizam College on Thursday, have qualified for the national-level tournament and will represent Telangana in Punjab.

Syeda Umme Kulsum (18 years) from St. Ann’s Women’s College competed in the 54–57 kg category, Syeda Suraiya Maheen (19 years) from Anwarul-Uloom College competed in the 51–54 kg category, and Shahjahan Osman (19 years) from Nizam College in the 65–70 kg category. All three athletes performed exceptionally well at the inter-college event, earning their spots at the nationals.

The trio trains under senior coach Mohammed Sayeed at the Sports Coaching Foundation (SCF), Masab Bank, located at Chacha Nehru Park. They undergo regular training sessions twice a day, from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Coach Mohammed Sayeed expressed pride in their achievement. Speaking to media persons, he said, “These girls have shown remarkable grit and focus throughout their training. Despite academic pressure and personal challenges, they have remained committed to the sport. Their selection for the nationals is a proud moment not only for me as their coach, but also for their colleges and for Telangana.”

The boxers will now represent Telangana at the upcoming national inter-college boxing championship in Punjab, marking a significant milestone in their sporting careers.
