Watch: Kondagattu Fire Guts More Than 20 Shops in Temple Town

  • Kondagattu fire damages over 20 shops near temple foothills
  • Fire officials deploy teams from Jagtial and Karimnagar to control blaze

Hyderabad: More than 20 shops in Kondagattu were gutted after a major fire swept through the temple town late on Saturday night. The blaze erupted in a cluster of commercial units located at the foothills of the Kondagattu hillocks. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and officials said they are assessing how it may have started. The incident has created concern among devotees and traders who depend on the area for daily activity.

According to the input, the flames spread rapidly through a line of toy and general stores. These shops stretched from the Pedda Hanuman statue to the Jagtial–Karimnagar main road. The fire destroyed several units before emergency teams arrived. Meanwhile, the sudden outbreak left shopkeepers with little time to react. Many of them could only watch as the blaze moved through the crowded stretch. The affected area is one of the busiest commercial spots near the temple.

Fire department personnel rushed to the site soon after locals raised the alarm. They deployed tenders from Jagtial, Dharmapuri and Karimnagar. Their operation continued late into the night as teams worked to contain the fire. However, the spread of the flames made the task difficult. Officials tried to block the fire from advancing further towards nearby structures. They also made sure that the blaze did not pose a risk to devotees who visit the temple.

Local residents and devotees expressed anger after the incident. They said the absence of a dedicated fire engine at the Kondagattu temple increased the damage. They argued that a quicker response could have saved some of the shops. The shrine is a major Hanuman temple in the state, and visitors flock to the area throughout the year. Therefore, locals said a permanent fire vehicle is necessary to prevent such losses in the future.

The assessment of damage is still underway. Authorities are expected to review safety measures in the temple town, and traders hope they will receive support. Further updates will depend on official findings on the cause of the fire
