Delhi based lawyer Vikas Tripathi has filed a petition in the Rouse Avenue magistrate’s Court seeking registration of an FIR against senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for allegedly violating the rules by including her name in the voters list three years before she obtained Indian citizenship.  The petitioner has brought to the court’s notice that Sonia Gandhi’s name was included in the voters list in 1980, but she obtained Indian citizenship in 1983.

The petitioner alleged that she had forged documents to get the right to vote before obtaining Indian citizenship.  The petition was dismissed by Additional Chief Judicial magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia in September 2025 due to lack of proper evidence.  In this context, Vikas Tripathi filed a revision petition in the Rouse Avenue Courts, who took up the hearing on this revision petition, issued notices to Sonia Gandhi and the Delhi Police and ordered them to give an explanation.  Later, the further hearing of the case was adjourned to January 6, 2026.  (Maxim News)
