A large number of Maoists surrendered before the Telangana police on Friday following a call given by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. As many as 41 Maoists laid down their arms before Director General of Police Shivdhar Reddy in Hyderabad. The surrender marked a significant development, as senior police officials linked the move directly to the appeal made by the Chief Minister on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day.

Speaking to the media, the DGP said the Maoists surrendered only after the call given by CM Revanth Reddy. He said the police also seized a total of 24 weapons from the surrendered Maoists. These included three AK-47 rifles, one light machine gun, five SLR rifles, seven INSAS rifles, one BGL gun, four .303 rifles, one single shot rifle, and two air guns. The recovery of these weapons, he said, highlighted the scale of armed activity linked to the surrendered cadre.

The DGP also provided details about the background of the Maoists who surrendered. Out of the 41 individuals, two were from Telangana, while 39 were from Chhattisgarh. He said that 11 of those who surrendered belonged to the Guerrilla Army Battalion. This, he noted, underlined the importance of the surrender, as members from active armed units had chosen to return to the mainstream.

Meanwhile, the police revealed the identities and affiliations of several key individuals. Erralla Ravi, also known as Santosh, and Praveen, both from Telangana, were among those who surrendered after remaining underground for 24 years. The DGP said that a member of the Kaniakapupu Prabhanjan Party and a member of the PDS were also part of the group. In addition, five people from the Second Regional Command of Telangana State surrendered.

Later, the DGP said that four Maoists from the Kothagudem and Alluri Sitarama Raju DVC State Committee cadre were also among those who laid down arms. He reiterated that the surrender took place in response to the Chief Minister’s call. According to him, the appeal made by CM Revanth Reddy on Martyrs’ Day played a decisive role in encouraging the Maoists to surrender before the police.
