The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has climbed to 255, placing it in the “poor to dangerous” category.

Pollution levels are particularly severe in industrial and high-traffic areas such as Balanagar, Sanathnagar, Jeedimetla, and Mallapur.

Experts attribute the spike in pollution to a combination of winter fog, vehicular emissions, and the burning of waste, which has significantly increased the concentration of fine particulate matter in the air.

Doctors have warned that people suffering from sinusitis, dust allergies, asthma, and other respiratory conditions must take special precautions.

Medical experts strongly advise wearing masks while stepping outdoors and avoiding morning walks and exercise, especially during early hours when pollution levels tend to peak.

Meanwhile, the situation in Delhi has worsened further, with AQI levels fluctuating between 400 and 500, categorising the air quality as “severe.”

Dense smog has drastically reduced visibility, disrupting the movement of hundreds of flights and trains.

In response, the Delhi government has enforced stringent restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-4) and announced school holidays to minimise exposure for children.

Air quality is also deteriorating rapidly in other metropolitan cities such as Mumbai and Kolkata. Environmental experts are urging citizens across urban centres to remain alert, limit outdoor activities, and follow health advisories to protect themselves from the growing impact of air pollution.
