According to GHMC officials, the GHMC OTS Scheme applies to both private and government properties. Under the scheme, property owners need to pay only 10% of the total pending dues along with the basic property tax amount. Once this payment is made, the remaining arrears will be waived. Therefore, officials expect many defaulters to come forward and settle their dues without delay.

GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan said that the GHMC OTS Scheme covers all properties located within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal area. He said the scheme would help citizens clear old tax liabilities easily. Meanwhile, it would also strengthen GHMC revenue by bringing more properties into the tax net.

The announcement comes soon after the expansion of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. Recently, the government issued a notification merging 20 municipalities and seven municipal corporations located within the Outer Ring Road into GHMC. As a result, the existing GHMC property tax system will now apply to these newly added areas. The OTS Scheme is therefore expected to benefit a much larger number of property owners.

The state government completed the GHMC expansion process in a short period. The Cabinet approved the expansion on November 25. Later, the GHMC Act was framed on December 1. Soon after, the Governor gave approval. Then, on December 2, the Chief Secretary officially announced the merger of 27 urban local bodies into GHMC. Following this, the government issued delimitation orders, increasing the number of corporator seats from 150 to 300.
