- Owaisi questions Modi citing Trump and Venezuela action
- Owaisi remarks draw BJP response on terror policy
Hyderabad: AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi reacted strongly to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the US military. Referring to the action taken by US President Donald Trump, Owaisi questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not take similar steps against those responsible for the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. He raised the issue while responding to reports of US military action in Venezuela.
Owaisi said that when US President Donald Trump took military action in Venezuela and captured the president there, India could also act decisively. He stated that Prime Minister Modi could go to Pakistan and capture the masterminds of the 26/11 terror attack. He questioned why such action could not be taken when Trump did it in Venezuela. Owaisi demanded that those who plotted the Mumbai attacks should be brought from Pakistan. He specifically mentioned Masood Azhar and Lashkar e Taiba terrorists in this context.
Meanwhile, Owaisi’s comments triggered a sharp political response. The Bharatiya Janata Party strongly condemned his remarks. BJP MP Ghulam Ali Khatana responded by explaining the approach of the Modi led NDA government. He said the government is following a strategic containment policy against terrorism. He clarified that under Prime Minister Modi’s rule, India targets terrorists and not countries.
Ghulam Ali Khatana also stressed India’s global position. He said India is the largest democracy in the world. Therefore, he added, it is India’s responsibility to remain friendly with neighbouring countries, whether they are small or big. He further stated that the government is not affected by any provocative comments. His remarks aimed to counter Owaisi’s criticism and underline the government’s stated policy.
Later, Bihar Minister Dilip Jaiswal also condemned Owaisi’s comments. He said Owaisi often makes such remarks to gain headlines. He mocked Owaisi by saying that he is now even giving advice to US President Donald Trump. Dilip Jaiswal also questioned whether Trump would consider such advice. His comments added to the political backlash against Owaisi.
The exchange has brought renewed focus on India’s counter terrorism approach and political rhetoric around national security. However, the reactions remain limited to the statements made, as no further developments were reported in the input.
